Homemade Sugar Scrub

Sugar is a wonderful addition to any homemade sugar scrub recipe. Scrubs
are used primarily for their ability to exfoliate the skin leaving it
feeling and looking soft and healthy. Sugar is an excellent choice to
add to a homemade sugar scrub recipe because it is gentle on your skin.
Not only does it clean the skin, but it heals and hydrates as well and
can be used on skin type without concern.



Every woman wants the perfect skin you see on the models in magazines
and on television. Of course, the models do not have perfect skin
because age, lifestyle, and environment leave their mark on every
complexion. What the models have are talented makeup artists and
photographers to make their complexions flawless. Still, we each dream
of having a clear silken complexion, and so we flock to the makeup
counters at department stores and haunt aisles of facial products. We
buy the overpriced chemical-laden goop in the pretty bottles and hope
for the best.



Shea butter is widely used in many moisturizing products and cosmetics.
Do you know that even Cleopatra was known to have used Shea butter? What
is Shea Butter? According to the dictionary, "a whitish or yellowish
fat obtained from the seeds of the shea tree, found in Africa, which is
used as food and for making soap and candles."



It is not a good idea to use a scrub recipe more than once or twice a
week, especially if you use an ingredient that is very coarse. If you
have sensitive skin you will want to choose a scrub ingredient that is
gentle. If your skin becomes sore, change the ingredients, decrease the
pressure when using, or use the scrub less frequently. If you have
highly sensitive skin you may find that the scent you chose is
irritating to your skin. Try a milder scent in a less abrasive scrub.



Once you have chosen the main ingredient for your body scrub you will
then need to select an oil that is skin friendly. When it comes to
selecting an oil it is a case of different strokes or different folks.
Some might prefer a vegetable oil, others perhaps decide on baby oil or
some other form of mineral oil. It is a personal preference, but the
only oil I am willing to stroke on my body is grape seed oil.



One of the most effective skin supplements is called creatine. This
particular product is normally found in the skin tissues even if you are
not taking the supplements. The liver, pancreas and your kidneys
normally produce creatine and make its way to your muscles and skin
through the bloodstream. This particular product is responsible for
helping your skin repair itself when it is injured, and it also
increases the skin endurance.



Homemade facial scrub can be easily customized with your own choice of
essential oils. Essential oils will make your scrub smell great, but
also provides some therapeutic benefits as well. For example, tea tree,
lavender, geranium and lemon oil are all are reported to help heal and
soothe skin afflicted by acne. You can also incorporation salicylic
acid, a well-known aid to unclog pores and reduce sebum production, by
simply crushing a few aspirin tablets into your scrub. However, adding
salicylic acid to your scrubs should only be done if you have oily skin.
It is too harsh to be included for scrubs for dry skin.



Now it's time out for my face. I like to start with a scrub to remove
dead skin and prevent blackheads. In a small bowl, mix equal parts olive
oil and granular brown sugar, and add a few drops of essential oil.
